Genital herpes can be categorized into 8 phases, or stages, depending on the symptoms you're experiencing:
- Warning (prodrome)
- Early redness
- Small blisters (vesicles)
- Swelling (edema)
- Wet ulcers
- Dry crust
- Healed
- Asymptomatic
It's important to know that you may experience a few of the stages and not all of them. Not every stage occurs in every person with genital herpes.
