Perfection in an imperfect body. With healthy eating, exercise and reduced stress, we can up the odds on a longer life. KEYWORDS: self esteem healthy eating longer life reduce stress personal health care self-esteem sensuality
Perfection is not possible.
Not only is it not possible. Its probability factor reduces dramatically with each moment that passes. Aged perfection can be found in wine and cheese. Aging in humans is a perfect system building imperfection. So we seek to acknowledge our "imperfectness" and deal with it. Perhaps we should start there.
With healthy eating, exercise and reduced stress, we can up the odds on a longer life. Not only the possibility of a longer life, but personal healthy care of our bodies and minds greatly increases our self-esteem, our response controls and our ability to find more joy in life. Not to mention the tremendous benefits to our sensuality and sense of self.
The dictionary says perfection is..."freedom from fault or defect". We, as humans, fall short of perfection by our very definition of human. Therefore, why strive to be something that is indeed impossible?
If we examine the "idea" of perfection from a spiritual standpoint, we can then begin to strive for that perfection without feeling negative about our outward appearance. What stops you from standing naked before your mirror? Before your partner? Before your God? Surely it can't be the slight thickening to your waist or the cellulite fast taking over your thighs like kids take over the living room.
What is it that stops you from enjoying your imperfect body to its fullest?
Could it be the lack of acceptance on your part? Could it be that you need to "do lunch" with God and this time remember to say thanks?
3 Surefire Ways to Gain Personal Acceptance
The following three tips will aid you in your quest for self-acceptance. (we gave up on the perfection thing, remember?) Try them. What have you got to lose?
1. Each day when you awaken, write the following line five times: "I can live with this body."This one works on many levels.
2. Find a place and just be naked once in a while. Bedroom, bathroom, backyard or barn. Doesn"t matter. Just strip down, give your love handles a pat of appreciation and be naked. Before your god, your partner or your livestock. All that matters here is that you spend some time and visit your naked wonderful self as often as you can.
3. Look more closely at pictures of other people. Nude pictures preferably. Really examine them. Be they model or amateur, they have imperfections. You can find them if you look. And even if you can't seem to find a flaw, take heart that they are there. The person in the picture knows it and deep inside you, you know it, too. Human beings are not perfect.
That is the crux. Humans are not and cannot be perfect. The media constantly pushes perfection in our faces and surrounds us with it every day. From Madison Ave. to our table. Youth and perfection are touted as being the ONLY way to succeed in life and health. We are subconsciously pushed into believing we don't measure up.
Well guess what...
... we measure up just fine.
